Finals finished and sewing started
February 1 2009, 2:55 AM
So... I haven't written much, but I've been sewing some! Yes! Right now I'm making a pink summer dress with side insets to make it nice and flowly. It's a rich pink knit that is super easy to work with. I only have to finish the neck binding, and, whala! After that I have to cut out the pieces for the pattern I made for a strapless shirt. The material is... I forgot... but it's thin and crinkly, and it feels smooth. The pattern is green flowers and brown stems on a light tan. The hardest part was choosing a tread because there are so many colors! I also grabbed a yard or so of cord to tie around under the bust where the seam will be; I'm hoping to add some beads to that or something!

Black Mesh Skirt
October 26 2008, 2:38 PM
I decided that I wanted to make a layered, poofy skirt.
When I went to the fabric store I found this pink fishnet for only $1.29 a yard and so, of course, I bought some. Lining the layers up was dificult, but I learned alot about seaming. On the first and third layer I intentionally hemmed it backwards so it looks raw. On the second layer the fishnet is stitched in. On the side is a bow, and the ribbon is 1" wide.

Fleece
October 25 2008, 3:46 PM
I made my first fleece!
Some of the major challenges were the sleeves and the zipper. All in all it was pretty easy, I just ended up breaking a needle and spending a lot more time on it than I thought. It's purple, my favorite colour, if you can't tell. It has two front pockets and a collar that also zips up. The zipper has two zipper grips, so you can leave it halfway open; from the top!

Are they still called suspenders?
October 25 2008, 3:24 PM
Yes, that's what my dad said. ("Are they still called suspenders?") .
I bought this wonderful belt material, with zebra print on it. Then I got three 1" spring clasps. I made suspenders with them, and so far I have discovered four different ways to wear them. My inspiration for this rad zebra contraption was my doc martins and a frilly tutu. I thought it would awesome put together. So that's what I got. I them!
Here's some pictures:

About Laanie
October 25 2008, 3:34 PM
So you can call me Laanie. It works just as well as about anything else. I have never had any sewing lessons, nor do I intend to. I started sewing by making doll clothes (which are extremely harder than human clothes because of their size) with left over scraps that my mom had. My mom doesn't really sew. She made me a couple pairs of pajama pants when I was six or seven, but then she quit. I inherited her sewing machine, but basically it was fifteen years old and it conks out every once in a while. So, I was very very very excited when my parents decided to give me my early birthday and Christmas gift about two weeks ago! This is what my new Singer looks like:
I have other interests besides sewing, though. I play tennis for my high school, and during summer I spend about five hours a day out on the courts. As soon as that gets over I start training for pole vaulting. I train a lot for both sports. I also am a very good student, and I work hard to keep up my grades in advanced classes. Yes, I love to read and to write. Talking on the phone is my second proffesion :) When I go to college I will be going to be a D.V.M. ( a Doctor in Veterinarian Medicine) I also want to be a French Translator. I'm excited about my future and hope that sewing plays some part in it.
